May 7, 2008 (6th Graders-Ugh)

I did very well this weekend. I would have done better if I had used my brain.....correctly.
On Saturday, I walked the 5 miles Killer Trail in 1 hr and 26 minutes. That is 34 minutes faster than the first time I walked it this year. It was in the heat of the day after I got of from work though. (I get off at 1pm on Saturdays.) I thought that I could stay hydrated by drinking three glasses of water an hour before I went on the trail because there in only two porta potties....one at the middle and one at the end and you never know what condition they'll be in if you use them. An hour would be enough time to get the water through my system. It was, but I didn't stay hydrated. Half way through the trail a man, who was running for city councel, and I assume his wife, were handing out half pints of water. If I could have remembered his name, I would have voted for him because he was my heroe. I got a cramp in my hamstring despite the rescue because I was slightly dehydrated.

On Sunday, I was supposed to rest, but it was a nice day so I decided to conquer the Killer trail again. This time I took Chrissie and her friend (another 12 year old) Jen, so I thought it would count as rest because Chrissie is recovering from her sprain and Jen stops a lot. I told Chrissie that she couldn't run and that we'd only do the flatter half then turn around and come back. Did she listen? No. My kids seem to need to learn things the hard way. At one point, Jen tagged Chrissie and took off running. Everyone there, including Jen, knows that Chrissie is faster and has more stamina and would catch Jen within 5 seconds if she were healthy. Chrissie had nothing to prove. I said, "Chrissie, don't do it." But she took off running anyways and made it about 4 steps then slid face first for about 5 feet re-injuring her foot. She's a sixth grader, so she, in her 6th grade way of thinking blamed Jen for the mishap and was mean to her for almost an hour on the way back. It was 6th grade insanity. Her reasoning was that Jen knew that she would not be able to let her win and shouldn't have tagged her in the first place. (As a sane person, I was thinking, why didn't Chrissie just call out, "I'm going to get you next time. Mom says I can't run yet." and laughed about it.) That's why I only taught 6th graders for a year and spent a semester monitoring those nuts for study hall. I can't wait until next year when she starts thinking like a normal person again. Any ways, she's back in the boot and is banned from the Killer trail until the weekend after this one.

I did my exercises Monday, but that was the last of the easier routines. The twit has added the third repitition back in as well as some extra exercises. Yesterday, I skipped it---I couldn't bring myself to work that hard again. My reasoning, I didn't really rest on Sunday and I'm supposed to rest again on Wednesday. I'll rest today and not on Wednesday. Today is Wednesday. I couldn't do it again, I woke up too late to get the whole routine in. I decided to write you guys, because I realize that if I'm writing you guys---I can't be as lazy. I am going to stop on my way between jobs to do the routine and be an hour late to the community college because I have my numbers done and the office is officially closed to students any ways. See you around noon guys. Thanks for keeping me disciplined.
