What Matt's Gift Is

This is another view of Matt's gift:

Now if you want to get in on the guessing, stop reading and click the link at the bottom. This is the third blog entry on about the gift...you'll want to start at the beginning.

When Matt gave me my one and only birthday gift this year (because I don't really celebrate this...not because all my family and friends don't love me)...I said, "Thanks, Matt...this was so thoughtful...um...er...what is it?" He said excitedly, "It's an ocarina, Mom." I said, "an ocarina????" Then Matt explained, "Yea mom. Remember how you used to play Zelda with me when I was little? I saw this and I thought of you."

That's when I remembered...Zelda used to open hidden doors and do stuff to pass levels with flutes called ocarinas. I was the queen of Super Nintendo before we upgraded to Nintendo 64 and the controller had more buttons and the 3-D effects of the game gave me motion sickness. I would stay up with the Matt and Jess all night beating the games. We had a blast. That was maybe eight or ten years ago.

Matt and I both are kind of musical. He plays the guitar and I play the guitar and piano...so an ocarina really is a thoughtful gift. I've already googled how to play it so I can actually play something for Matt someday. I've already learned that you don't blow in the part that looks like a mouth on the face side...you blow in the little slit in this picture. Progress is progress, no matter how slow.

Anyways, thanks Matt...sniff...that really was thoughtful...sniff...
