June 9, 2008 (Wet T-shirt)

This was a good week for the gym. Once I discovered that the cardio machines released enough dopamine to alleviate the discomfort from the dry socket (that I didn't know that I had) I was at the gym every day sometimes twice a day. I guess that should have been the clue that I needed to go back to the oral surgeon, but I didn't go back until Friday (a week after the surgery). Another clue that I should have gone back a little earlier was my coworkers, Marcia and Randall saying that I should. Thanks for looking out for me guys---I do feel much better. Of course, I go back today to get it repacked (which is extremely uncomfortable for about an hour) so I'll likely hit the gym twice today.

With all that cardio working out I actually learned how to program the elliptical machine instead of just hitting quick start. You can set the level any where from 1, meaning you may as well hit quick start, to 25, meaning you should be climbing a mountain or something because this machine is beneath you. I set it for 5 with the added pleasure of going in reverse sometimes. (A whole lot of sarcasm was intended there.) At this level the machine says at my weight I would burn 707 calories in an hour! So you can guess how hard this is for me to do. The first time I set it for 20 minutes (because I was doing a couple of different machines that day). It was all that I could do to make it 20 minutes then the stupid thing told me I had to cool down for 5 minutes, so I had to keep going at level 1 for 5 minutes---but it was a hard level to do when you think you are done already. Today I did it for 40 minutes with a 5 minute cool down. It took a lot of will power not to quit at the 30 minute mark. As you can imagine this was causing me to produce a lot of sweat. More than I think I've ever done without being sick. The first day that I discovered how to properly use the machine I had a gray t-shirt on. I came home and Chrissie asked me why I was wearing my bra on the outside of my shirt. (I don't know where she gets her quick wit from. Sarcasm intended.) Any ways, I looked in the mirror and sure enough I had sweat so much that my whole shirt was a darker gray except for where my bra was. That was embarrassing, so the next day I wore a white shirt with a picture on the front. I came home and Chrissie said, "Your shirt looks see through." I went to the mirror and sure enough, that's why some guys like wet t-shirt contests. This was also embarrassing so the next day I wore one of my husbands light blue baggy t-shirts. When I came home, Chrissie just said, "Ewe." So after giving her a nice sweaty hug, I went to the mirror and found that I finally had the right look. Because it was so baggy it looked like I was only sweaty from my neck to my chest....there was no bra outline. Poor EJ, he's going to be missing some t-shirts for a while.

This week, I'm hoping to actually get the nerve to jog on the tread mill. We'll see.
