After wearing a baggy pair of jeans to an event and having to wrestle with my belt to keep my pants up I went home and decided to give those fat jeans another try. I had tried them on a few weeks ago and they were too tight to wear more than 10 minutes. Well, (drum roll please....) they fit. Remember, one of the cons from last week's blog was that you are never satisfied and you always can find ways that you need to improve. So I decided to try on my old everyday jeans that were a size smaller to see how much skinnier I needed to get to fit into those. Guess what! They fit, too!!!! I guess I did reach my major goal for the summer even if the scales don't completely agree.
I would have been completely stoked except I spent the week realizing that I'm still aging. I know I'm still aging because:
1. I went to 3 minor league baseball games this week and was exhausted the next day because I was going to bed after my bed time. I used to thrive on three hours sleep. Those days are over.
2. As an Olympic Fan, I have been dutifully watching as much of the games as I could until Saturday night. I went to bed early, at about 9. My husband, who hasn't watched hardly any of the Olympics, said, "You're not going to miss the closing ceremonies are you?" To which I responded, "The Olympics are over for me. They're killing me." Thank God he was wrong and I watched the closing ceremonies on Sunday. As much as I love them, I am so glad the Olympics are over and I can get my beauty rest.
3. I used to thrive on busy weekends, but Saturday started at 8 am and ended at 8 pm with three different events with no break between. I need a nap if I am going to keep that kind of pace any more. (This is why I had to go to bed at 9 on Saturday night.)
4. One of the events on Saturday was an 80th b-day party for a friend's mother. It had a Neil Diamond impersonator and an Elvis impersonator and I thought it was so loud my ears were going to bleed. I used to love rock concerts. Not only that, but I was REALLY tired after 4 hours of partying with senior citizens. That was when I realized that I am still getting older.
5. I really like my minor league baseball team, but when a friend asked me if I wanted to go with her to their last game of the season I turned her down. Why? Because it's on Labor Day, it's an away game (only an hour away, but still away), and I have to get up early to get my youngest off to school and go to work the next day. Even if the game doesn't go into extra innings, I am going to be going to bed after my bedtime if I go. I would have never turned her down ten years ago. :(
6. The last thing that is making me realize my aging process is still underway is.....I am now the mother of a 22 year old. My oldest child's birthday is today. I was 22 when I had her. I can't imagine how my mother felt to be made a grandmother when she was 5 years younger than I am now. I now realize why she wasn't as happy as I thought she would be when I announced I was pregnant at Christmas dinner. Sorry mom.
Still, getting older is better than the alternative. :)

The best is yet to come. Life begins once the kids are raised and you are mature enough to go to bed at a decent hour. It's like an AWAKENING. You realize all you have missed while chasing around, trying to meet everyone's expectations while you are sleep deprived. You finally really enjoy life and are secure enough to turn down a few things and confident enough to do the things you really like instead of chasing a trend.
